A slice of heaven lying between Africa and Madagascar, Mayotte will enchant you with its ylang-ylang fragrances and postcard-perfect scenery. This French island in the Comoros archipelago promises a fantastic trip along one of the world’s most beautiful lagoons. It offers a rich cultural diversity, magnificent landscapes and exceptional underwater wildlife.
With temperatures ranging between 25 and 35°C all year round, Mayotte is pleasant at any time of year. Although it is generally spared from rainfall, it does experience a wetter season between December and April. For the best visibility for diving and whale watching, it’s best to go during the dry season, between July and October.
Located in the south of the island, 45 km from Mamoudzou, the 4-star Jardin Maore hotel boasts a privileged location in many respects: it lies on the magnificent N’Gouja beach (much frequented by turtles) and is set in the heart of a tropical garden, rich in essences and varied scents.
Majestic hundred-year-old baobabs line the beach, while mango trees and giant bamboo trees are home to a surprising array of wildlife: you can watch the magnificent flight of fruit bats, and small lemurs come to greet you every day, bringing joy to young and old alike.
You can’t visit Mayotte without trying out scuba diving. The seabed in its enclosed lagoon is one of the most beautiful diving sites in the world, with so many species of tropical fish. Your underwater excursion will be a colourful one. Diving in the Mayotte lagoon means diving in one of the largest lagoons in the world. The coral wildlife is particularly abundant: parrotfish, surgeonfish, moray eels, butterfly fish, kingfish, jacks, schools of dogtooth tuna and green hawksbill turtles.
Mayotte is also a major nesting ground for sea turtles, so you may be lucky enough to see miniature shells on legs darting towards the waves on the beach at N’Gouja.
